Wu’s sixty-four point patterns are first revealed in the book Wu’s Medical and Yi Merging. Needle as a tool is like a weapon. Using needles is like placing soldiers in a pattern. Wu’s sixty-four point patterns can be simply grasped as combinations of points. The theories can be taught in more or less degrees. It is easy to learn and be understood. Using fewer needles yields a huge effect. It is great for treating common or popular diseases. Results can be seen instantly. This point combination theory can also be studied in a deeper level which is in the Medical Yi-Jing level. This can take the practitioner’s knowledge from medicine into Yi-Jing.

As the modern social and economic environment changes rapidly, incidents in psychological disease rise in all age groups and in both genders. Psychological problems are aware by more people nowadays. Four-Wood point combination is a pattern on the foot where points line up like a Chinese character “井”(Jing), so named Four-Wood-Opening-Jing. It is one of the special point patterns in Wu’s acupuncture. Four-wood points can soothe the Liver and unblock Qi stagnation. These point patterns can be modified or combined based on clinical manifestations. For instance, combined Mountain-Heaven-Opening-Pattern, Earth-Spirit pattern, etc. Combination patterns can increase treatment effects and help treat various psychological diseases.
