Dr. Chi Chow, founder of NYCTCM, attended the 15th Anniversary Celebration. NYCTCM was started in 1996 by Dr. Chi Chow. Dr. Chow felt that the New York City area had need for a school which taught Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) much as it is taught in China, and which at the same time could help students relate this approach to Western medical practice. Her vision included small classes, master-apprentice type teaching relationships in clinic, and the flexibility to accommodate students’ schedules by offering classes mostly on weekends. From its first trimester in Spring of 1996, NYCTCM has embodied this approach

Dr. ChowDr. Chi Chow, M.D. (China), O.M.D., Ph.D., Licensed Acupuncturi st, Dipl. Chinese Herbology (NCCAOM) graduated from Zhejiang Medical University, P. R. China, and practiced as a physician in the 1950’s, specializing in hematology. Trained as a Medical Doctor, acupuncturist and herbologist, she practiced both western and eastern medicine in China for nearly 30 years.

Dr. Chow is a leading authority in Chinese medicine and acupuncture and lectured extensively throughout the United States and China. Since 1983, she instructed and practiced acupuncture in the United States, first in Chicago and then in New York. Dr. Chow was the Academic Dean at the Mid-West Center for the Study of Oriental Medicine, and later worked as the Director of the Acupuncture Program at the New Center for Wholistic Health Education & Research in Syosset, New York. Dr. Chow also worked as a Commissioner of the National Accreditation Commission for Schools and Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NACSCAOM) for five years. In this capacity, she participated in accreditation site visits to more than 10 acupuncture schools in the United States.

Dr. Chow was a Board member of the Illinois State Acupuncture Association in 1992, and was a member of the American Association of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, as well as a member of the Acupuncture Society of New York.

Early in 1959, Dr. Chow published a research paper entitled “High Blood Pressure & Cholesterol, A Study by Various Professions and 1,000 Case Observations”. She later published numerous articles regarding the treatment of leukemia and anemia including the use of herbs. Most recently, Dr. Chow completed work on her Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine; her dissertation concerned the use of acupuncture in the treatment of clinical depression.
