1. TCM Course Sequence (101-108)
TCM courses Physiology (101) through Treatment Principles (105) are sequential; each course is a prerequisite for the course to follow.
Physiology (101) 1st; Pathogenesis (102) 2nd; Diagnosis (103) 3rd; Syndrome Analysis (104) 4th; Treatment Principles (105) 5th. Clinical Acupuncture Practice 1, 2 & 3 (106, 107, 108) are not sequential and may be taken in any order after completion of Treatment Principles (105).
2. Meridians and Points Sequence (201-203)
Meridians and Points 1, 2 & 3 (201, 202, 203) should be taken in sequence; however, a student may take 1 and 2 (201 and 202) at the same time. M. & Pt. 1 and 2 (201 and 202) are prerequisites for M. & Pt. 3 (203). Topical Anatomy is a corequisite for M & Pt. 1; Palpatory Anatomy is a corequisite for M & Pt. 2.
3. Point Labs (208, 209)
Point Labs 1 & 2 (208 and 209) both have as prerequisites Meridians and Points 1, 2 & 3 (201, 202, 203). Point Lab 1 (208) is intended to be a review for the three M. & Pt. courses, whereas Point Lab 2 (209) is intended to be a preparation for the NCCAOM Point Location Examination and should be taken in the trimester before a student plans to take that exam.
4. Needle Technique (204)
Prerequisite: TCM Physiology (101) and M. & Pt. 1 (201).
5. Advanced Needle Technique (205)
Prerequisite: Needle Technique (204)
6. Acupuncture Case Analysis 1 and 2 (206, 207)
Prerequisite: TCM Syndrome Analysis (104); A student may take Case Analysis 1 and 2 (206 and 207) in any order.
7. Introduction to Nei Jing (109)
Prerequisite: TCM Pathogenesis (102)
8. Tongue and Pulse Diagnosis Workshop (110)

Herbal Formulas (407-409)
Prerequisites: TCM Syndrome Analysis (104), Individual Herbs 1, 2 & 3 (404, 405, 406).
Herbal Formulas 1, 2, 3 (407, 408, 409) may be taken in any sequence. A student may take two herb formula classes at the same time.
20. Eastern Nutrition (402)
Prerequisites: TCM Syndrome Analysis (104), Introduction to Chinese Herbology (401)
21. Patent Herbs (403)
Prerequisites: TCM Syndrome Analysis (104), Introduction to Chinese Herbology (401)
22. Clinical Herbal Practice 1 & 2 (410, 411)
Prerequisites: Herbal Formulas 1, 2, 3 (407, 408, 409); Co-requisite: OM Therapeutic Strategies (418). A student may take Clinical Herbal Practice 1 and 2 (410, 411) in any order.
23. OM Case Analysis 1 and 2 (412, 413)
Prerequisites: Herbal Formulas 1, 2, 3 (407, 408, 409);
A student may take OM Case Analysis 1 and 2 (412, 413) in any order.

Prerequisites: Individual Herbs 1, 2, 3 (404, 405, 406) TCM Syndrome Analysis is a corequisite.

Students are advised but not required to take Tai Chi 1 and 2 (601, 602) in sequence, as well as Qi Gong 1 & 2 (603, 604).
31. Foundations of Tui Na 1 & 2 (605)
Prerequisites: TCM Physiology (101), Meridians and Points 1 (201).
32. Tui Na Clinical Applications (607)
Prerequisites: Foundations of Tui Na (605), Treatment Principles (105)
33. Elective Courses
Students are required to complete 60 hours of elective courses in the Acupuncture Program and 90 hours in the Oriental Medicine Program.
34. General Review
Note: The General Review course is a non-credit course. Students who have a GPA of 3.0 or less are required to take the review course before NYCTCM will submit the pre-graduation verification forms to NCCAOM for those students. Post-graduate OM students who have a GPA of 3.0 or less in their herbal courses are also required to take the herbal component of this review course before NYCTCM will submit pre-graduation verification forms to NCCAOM.
Exam Prerequisites
NCCAOM Exam (Acupuncture) Application
Prerequisite: Complete two of the three Clinical Acupuncture Practice courses. A student may apply for the exam during his/her second Clinical Acupuncture Practice course. Please review above about the General Review Course. Students are advised to take Point Lab before the exam as close to their exam date as possible.
NCCAOM Exam (Chinese Herbology) Application
Prerequisite: Students must complete one of the Clinical Herbal Practice courses before the exam date.
Clinic Intern Entrance Exam
Prerequisites are described under NYCTCM Clinic Prerequisites.
Graduation Exam (Acupuncture)
Prerequisites:
Didactic: Complete two out of Clinical Acupuncture Practice 1, 2, and 3, and be in your final trimester of didactic study.
Clinic: Complete 120 hours of Senior Internship.
Applications for the Graduation Exam are available from the Records Manager.
Graduation Exam (Oriental Medicine)
Prerequisites:
Didactic: Complete one of Clinical Herbal Practice 1 and 2, and be in your final trimester of didactic study.
Clinic: Complete 180 hours of Senior Internship, at least 60 hours of which must be in the Herbal Clinic. Graduates of the Acupuncture Program returning to complete the OM degree must complete 90 hours of their Senior Internship, all in the Herbal Clinic.

NYCTCM Student Clinic Prerequisites — Acupuncture Program
Clinic Orientation:
Students new to the NYCTCM Student Clinic are required to attend the clinic orientation.
I. Clinic Intern Entrance Exam Prerequisites:
- TCM Sequence through Syndrome Analysis.
- Meridians and Points 1, 2 and 3
- Needle Technique / CNT Course
- Not less than 180 or more than 220 clinic hours as Observer/Assistant.
- Students must complete the 9 credit bioscience prerequisite requirement before they may sit for the Clinic Intern Entrance Exam.
Note: Applications for the Student Clinic Intern Entrance Exam are available in the clinic or the Student Records Office. Check the course schedule for the exam dates. Completed applications should be in the Academic Dean’s mailbox two weeks prior to the exam date.
II. Junior Internship Prerequisites:
- Successfully pass the clinic entrance exam—both written and practical exams.
- Complete Observation and Assistant levels in clinic (210 hours).
- Complete Clinical Counseling course.
- A copy of your CNT Certificate must be on file.
- A copy of your current CPR and First Aid Certification must be on file.
- Malpractice Insurance payment must have been made.
- Students are required to attend the Junior Intern Orientation before starting as a Junior Intern.
- Students are advised to take a Point Lab course prior to beginning their Junior Internship.
III. Senior Internship Prerequisites:
- Successful completion of Junior Internship (240 Hours).
- Submission of a clinical case report.
- Pass Clinical Skills Assessment Test.
A student is responsible to submit a final summation of his clinic records to the Clinic Director upon completion of his/her Senior Internship.
NYCTCM Student Clinic Prerequisites — Oriental Medicine Program
Students in the Oriental Medicine Program must fulfill all of the clinic requirements of the Acupuncture Program, and in addition must progress through the four levels of the herbal clinic. Prerequisites for entrance to the different herbal clinic levels are as follows:
Observation:
Completion of any 2 Individual Herbs courses.
Assistantship:
- Completion of all 3 Individual Herbs courses, or completion of any two Individual Herbs courses and concurrent enrollment in the third course.
- Completion of 150 Observation hours, of which 60 must be in the herbal clinic.
Jr. Internship:
- Completion of any two Herbal Formulas courses.
- Completion of 60 Assistantship hours, of which 30 must be in the herbal clinic.
- Receipt of a passing grade on the Herbal Clinic Entrance Examination, which will include sections on TCM theory, herbal identification, and individual herbs.
Sr. Internship:
- Completion of all 3 Herbal Formulas courses.
- Completion of 330 Jr. Internship hours, of which 120 must be in the herbal clinic. (Graduates of the Acupuncture Program returning to complete their OM degree must complete 180 hours of Junior Internship, all in the Herbal Clinic. )
- Receipt of a passing grade on the Sr. Intern Examination, which will include a section on herbal formulas, and receipt of a passing grade on the Clinic Skills Assessment Test.
- Completion of a detailed case report involving herbal treatment.
